DIY Modern Wreath 🎄 2019

It’s finally the holidays! Because we’re living in an apartment complex this year - I’ve been inspired by all the holiday decorations in the lobbies, hallways, and outside our neighbors doors so I decided to add to the cheer with our own decor! This is my first time making my own wreath. It took me about 2.5 hours start to finish but it was so much fun and I loved how it turned out! 🌿

WHAT YOU NEED

For the supplies, I took advantage of Michael’s Black Friday sale! Deciding what kind of stems to use was the tricky part - but ultimately I wanted something simple, neutral (so I can reuse it or keep it up around the house afterwards), yet pretty! I used: eucalyptus, cedar with little white berries, and rose gold leaves + berries. Michael’s had a huge selection of floral stems but you can also find some pieces on amazon or target!

Other things I used:

  • Gold metal hoop - 14”

  • Gold-colored copper wire

  • Pliers

  • Strong pair of scissors

  • Hot glue gun

STEP 1

Lay out all your supplies and separate your stems into smaller pieces so you can arrange them! Depending on the stem - you may need to use scissors or pliers to get them separated. Then decide what pieces you want where and how the overall look will be!

STEP 2

Cut a decent amount of wire - more than enough to wrap the first stem around the hoop. Take the end of the wire and wrap it multiple times around a piece of the metal hoop to secure it, then add the stem and start wrapping the wire around! I started with the eucalyptus since this was my “base” and began adding the other pieces afterwards!

You can secure some branches or leave them out - depending on the look you’re going for. I left some out since I wanted it to look fuller and flare out a bit :)

STEP 3

Continue cutting lengths of wire and adding stems until complete! TIP: Cut more wire than anticipated so you’ll have extra instead of realizing that you’ve run out and the stem isn’t fully secured yet.

STEP 4 (Optional)

Once complete, you might have little gaps missing that will be super difficult to use a wire to add! So I used a hot glue gun to glue it right on top of the other pieces.

After

Then it’s complete!

I could’ve hung this wreath in any orientation but I decided to go with it in a crescent-moon type of way. I scripted and printed out a little holiday sign and hung this outside my door. Come January, I can also use this inside my house as a little sign for Penny! She loves it 💞

Happy crafting! xx
